Todd Howard from Bethesda said that the idea for the adaptation arose back in 2009, but the project began after meeting with producer Jonathan Nolan.
He turned out to be a huge Fallout fan.
Emil Pagliarulo, design director at Bethesda, noted that the series remains canonical:
Everything that happens in the show happened or will happen in the games. Television is a completely different medium... We needed to accurately convey the tone, but they respected our vision.
The popularity of the show directly affected the games: prices for the series' games decreased, and content updates were released. Fallout 4 once again topped the charts, and Fallout 76 attracted a record number of players.
Producer Bill LaCoste said:
We always knew that players would come after the show.
Creative Director John Rush adds:
We create games together with the players.
Todd Howard confirmed that the events of the series will be taken into account in Fallout 5:
Fallout 5 will exist in a world where the events of the series are happening or have already happened.
