Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI have not yet opened, so users online and various representatives of the gaming industry are discussing the potential cost of the new installment in the franchise. There is an opinion that the Rockstar project will set a new price bar.

Recently, in a conversation with GamesIndustry.biz, analyst Vic Bassi from Video Game Insights shared his vision — "if there is any game capable of exceeding the $100 threshold," it is GTA VI.

However, Take-Two Interactive and other publishers will have to carefully weigh all the pros and cons of such a step and its impact on the long-term funnel of buyers [sales]. Given the level of hype around [GTA VI], it would be reasonable for Take-Two to consider raising the price, although reaching the $100 mark may be a step too risky.

Analyst Rhys Elliott from Alinea Analytics noted that for Rockstar, the "long-term source of income" is GTA Online, not the base game itself. Therefore, too high a price will become a problem — it will interfere with the transition of players to the new project:

Limiting the potential audience at the start with an excessively high base price will hinder the transition of players from GTA 5 to GTA 6 and slow down the growth of the GTA Online user base

The release of Grand Theft Auto VI is currently scheduled for November 2026.
