A few months ago, modders presented gameplay of Turtle WoW 2.0. The Blizzard game was being ported to the modern Unreal Engine 5.
It was assumed that the Turtle WoW 2.0 pirate server would run on UE 5, but in mid-December, the project authors announced the termination of development:
[...] After lengthy discussions and careful consideration of the direction we want to take Turtle WoW, we have come to a difficult decision. As of today, our agreement with Unreal Azeroth to develop the Turtle WoW 2.0 client has been terminated. We would like to thank the Unreal Azeroth team for their unwavering enthusiasm and dedication to this incredibly complex project, and we apologize to everyone who was looking forward to the new version.
Previously, the creators of the Turtle WoW servers faced claims from Blizzard's lawyers — they called for the project to be closed, but the modders refused and continue to work.
It is not yet clear whether this statement only refers to the cancellation of Turtle WoW on UE 5 or whether the entire Unreal Azeroth project has been closed.
