Although Divinity: Original Sin 2 remains a good game, its success pales in comparison to Baldur’s Gate 3. Therefore, the majority of Larian’s current audience consists of Baldur’s Gate 3 fans, not necessarily devotees of the Divinity series. Studio head Sven Vincke stated in an interview that players who enjoy BG3 for its cinematic storyline should not return to the older Divinity games unless they want to explore the series' lore.
If you played Baldur’s Gate 3 for the tactical cooperative combat, freedom of action, or multiplayer, you should definitely play Original Sin 2. It's the game that laid the foundation for BG3. Original Sin 1 is also suitable, but to a lesser extent, as it doesn't have companions like the later games.
He added that the older games in the series are outdated and may disappoint those who expect the depth of characters found in BG3. At the same time, the story of all the games will be taken into account in the new Divinity, although the team is focusing on Original Sin.
