Chip manufacturers are redirecting capacity to more profitable AI solutions, reducing the availability of memory for consumer electronics and rapidly increasing prices — expected to rise by up to 30%.
This will particularly affect next-generation consoles. The PlayStation 6, expected to be released in 2027–2028, and the new Xbox may appear at significantly higher prices. Leaks suggest the PS6 could cost $700–800, and the new Xbox — $800–1200.
Analysts warn that low profitability for manufacturers could lead to a direct transfer of costs to players. For current consoles, price increases will be 10–15%, and for PCs — up to 30%.
The situation is exacerbated by past tariff increases and falling demand. Sales of gaming equipment are declining, and average device prices are reaching record highs. Experts also do not rule out release delays — manufacturers may postpone release dates, fearing weak demand in the expensive segment.
