Not all gamers are ready to accept the existence of women.
Recently, researchers from the Entertainment Software Association studied the gaming community and shattered the stereotype that "female gamers don't exist."
According to the presented research results, about 48% of players worldwide are women. It was also found that about 22% of American gamers are over 65 years old.
Many women explain that their "invisibility" on certain platforms is not equivalent to absence:
The fear of harassment, sexist comments, or toxic behavior often forces [women] to remain anonymous or turn off their microphones. As one user on X (formerly Twitter) summarized: "It's not that 'we don't play,' it's that we stay silent to be left alone."
The study shows that the problem is not the lack of interest in video games among women, but how some treat them in the gaming community — sometimes the environment becomes excessively hostile.
