Corsair accused of profiting from "RAMageddon": orders canceled, prices raised

The reason was a post on Reddit: an order for a gaming PC for $3499 was suddenly canceled, and soon the same kit appeared on sale for $4299. The difference of $800 coincided with "RAMageddon" — a sharp increase in prices for RAM amid demand from AI data centers. Users suspected the company of refusing unprofitable orders in order to revise prices.

Corsair quickly issued an official statement. The company claims that the order was canceled due to an anti-fraud system error — an automatic mechanism that tracks suspicious transactions, and the price increase is due to the end of New Year's promotions on January 1.

On January 1, our online store mistakenly displayed a memory kit that was not in stock — DOMINATOR TITANIUM RGB 48GB (2x24GB) DDR5 6400MT/s CL36… the product was briefly displayed as available for pre-order, despite the lack of stock.

According to Corsair, all orders with this product placed on January 1 were canceled, and the funds were returned. Customers were promised additional discount codes for DRAM memory.

The situation turned out to be larger. Users reported mass cancellations of DRAM kits under the pretext of "unforeseen circumstances." These explanations did not convince the community. As compensation, Corsair offered discounts of 15%, after which a boycott group #DontBuyFromCorsair appeared on Reddit. The incident became an indicator of the tense situation in the component market in 2026.
