Lee Sang-hyeok, better known as Faker, has received the highest award for athletes in South Korea — the Cheongnyong Medal of the Order of Sports Merit, presented by President Lee Jae-myung.

The award marks Faker's contribution to esports over ten years, his status as the most dominant League of Legends player in history. He became the first esports player to be awarded this honorary medal.

The ceremony took place at the Cheong Wa Dae State Guest House, where Faker was recognized for his dedication and development of the esports industry. Over more than ten years, he has won more world titles than any other player, set records in South Korea, and become a symbol of esports success.

After the ceremony, Faker said:

It is a huge personal honor for me to receive an award representing the Republic of Korea. But I would not be able to stand here without the team and colleagues who have been with me all these years. It would not have been possible without the support of the fans, who always give strength. I will continue to give everything I can, both in and out of competitions, to carry positive messages and raise the status of Korean esports.

In society, Faker is considered an "eternal good guy": a strong competitor, but at the same time decent, charitable, and polite person.
