The level of toxicity in the CS2 community is very high.

Recently, journalist Richard Lewis summarized the past year. He presented the Gonzo Awards 2025 to the "most annoying community."

Once again, the anti-award went to fans of Counter-Strike 2:

To give you a rough idea of what the CS2 discourse has become, imagine this… A high-pitched squeal emanating from a primitive collective mind whose only human quality is pure audacity… The modern CS player operates under the belief that the new version should not only work exactly like the last version of CS:GO (a game that was mostly criticized by the same people who now preach about its perfection for most of its existence), but also receive daily updates with new content, otherwise its "developers have abandoned it."

According to the journalist, the Counter-Strike 2 community consists of a huge number of "mama's boys" and their behavior is not very adequate:

[...] the average CS2 player gets more pleasure from whining about the game than from playing it. As for the game itself? Well, good luck with that, as the community consists of the same people who are determined to make every interaction with the video games they can't tear themselves away from a complete nightmare. Matches are regularly abandoned after two rounds because they are "impossible to win" due to "stupid allies." Any lucky chance turns into an accusation of cheating, sometimes followed by the accuser turning on the very cheats they hate so much. Despite the fact that the game's design makes quick communication vital, approximately 50% of players are silent, and another 40% cannot afford a microphone. Of the remaining 10%, about nine percent are great thinkers with a firm understanding of geopolitics who know exactly why you should [*lots of swearing*] because of some 13th-century conflict.

In 2024, the anti-award also went to the Counter-Strike 2 community, and in 2023 to fans of another Valve project — Dota 2.
