Hackers hacked Apex Legends and started controlling other people's heroes

In January, Respawn Entertainment announced a "security incident" in Apex Legends.
Hackers managed to hack the online game and gained the ability to control other players' characters: they threw out equipment and dropped fighters from a great height.
The developers reassured the players that the hackers did not run malicious code on their devices:
