Microsoft Hides Data for a Reason: Xbox Series X|S Significantly Lags Behind PS5. Data from Former Vice President of the Company
Microsoft has not published official sales data for Xbox Series X|S for a long time, but the figures were revealed by a former employee of the corporation. In this context, it is easy to understand why the company avoids public reports.
The launch of Xbox Series X|S was encouraging: the first months of sales were successful, and many analysts expected real competition with Sony. But the momentum quickly faded.
According to Mark Stanley, former Vice President of Global Expansion and Hardware at Microsoft, in the first 18 months, until the end of 2022, Xbox Series X|S sold more than 12 million devices in more than 40 countries. The result looked decent, especially given the shortage and activity of resellers. Later, the situation changed.
According to 2024 estimates, including data from Take-Two Interactive, total sales of Xbox Series X|S amounted to about 27 million consoles. In 2025, Microsoft sold only about a million devices, indicating a sharp decline in interest.
For comparison, as early as September 2022, Sony reported 25 million PS5s sold. Since then, the gap has only increased, turning into an abyss.
