Some players, fearing they wouldn't be able to play otherwise, purchased the new version despite owning the original.
Yesterday, Xbox began automatically refunding owners of the Xbox 360 version who purchased the new version during the upgrade issues. The message users receive explains: if you already owned a digital copy of Red Dead Redemption for Xbox 360 before the glitches and then purchased the Series X|S version, you are entitled to a refund - the upgrade was originally intended to be free.
Some players may receive the notification later; in this case, it's worth waiting or contacting Xbox support.
Fans are divided: some consider the refund a "nice gesture," others see it as expected, but most note that not every company would have done the same.
