In May 2025, an enthusiast with the nickname rainyaltaccount, while watching promotional materials for Grand Theft Auto VI, noted an abundance of license plates with the inscription "State of Gloriana." This inspired him to make a joke.

He decided to troll the community: he registered the domain name "visitgloriana.com" and set everything up so that users would be redirected to the GTA VI section on the Rockstar Games website when they clicked on the link.

At the end of last year, rainyaltaccount allegedly received an offer to purchase the domain:

I was contacted by an intermediary who said that someone was interested in buying the domain for about $600. I initially refused, thinking it was a joke. A few days later, they came back with a much more aggressive offer, which clearly showed their seriousness. After several rounds of negotiations, we agreed on a final price of about $2,000. They transferred the money, and I transferred the domain to them.

Until recently, the domain remained unchanged, but now the site has been closed, and MarkMonitor has become the registrar:

MarkMonitor primarily serves large corporate clients and is typically used to manage extensive portfolios of high-value domains. Now for the interesting part: Take-Two's confirmed domains for GTA VI (and even GTA V) all use MarkMonitor as the registrar, including rockstargames.com.

rainyaltaccount suggests that this deal could have been included in the development budget for Grand Theft Auto VI:

[...]  maybe it's all just a coincidence, who knows? (If it really was Rockstar... sorry for deducting $2,000 from the GTA VI budget, haha)
