Last year, information appeared that the head of the Assassin's Creed franchise, Marc-Alexis Coté, was leaving Ubisoft. He worked for the company for about 20 years.

Recently, Radio Canada journalists reported that Coté had filed a lawsuit against Ubisoft. He claims that he became a "victim of forced dismissal."

The documents show that in the summer of 2025, Coté learned that Ubisoft was looking for a new "franchise manager" — he was supposed to oversee several large projects, including Assassin's Creed.

Coté was very surprised, as this position included many of his responsibilities. Yves Guillemot opposed his candidacy, as this position involved working in France.

Then Ubisoft offered Coté another position — he could head a potential creative studio with "abstract plans for minor franchises."

Marc-Alexis Coté took two weeks to think. He considered this offer an "unacceptable demotion," which is a "disguised dismissal," so he presented the company with a demand for severance pay.

Ubisoft advised him not to come to work, but to continue the period of introspection, while waiting for an official response to his request. However, the very next day, Ubisoft announced internally that Coté was leaving of his own accord.

According to available data, Marc-Alexis Coté is now demanding payment of salary for two years, as well as compensation for moral damage. As a result, the total amount exceeds $1.3 million.
