Recently, RJCmedia reported a real "infinite money" bug. He discovered it in a GameStop store.
As it turned out, due to an error in the valuation of goods, GameStop could buy back used Nintendo Switches at a price higher than new ones were sold for.
RJCmedia drew attention to this nuance:
If you buy a Nintendo Switch 2 for $414.99 and then immediately return it, while simultaneously purchasing a used game, a promotion will kick in that increases the exchange amount to $472.50.
GameStop acknowledged the problem and released a patch — this scheme will no longer work:
In short, our system briefly valued the used console higher than its new retail price, which created a small window during which customers could repeat this operation over and over, accumulating infinite trade credit. The error was immediately corrected. Trade promotions have been updated so that customers can no longer turn simple arithmetic into an endless source of income — balance has been restored.
