According to analyst Daniel Camilo, almost three months after release, sales of the game across all platforms likely did not exceed one million copies. For comparison, the first part sold about two million copies in the same period. The situation is complicated by the availability of The Outer Worlds 2 in the Game Pass subscription. Although it has been officially confirmed that the project quickly attracted more than a million players, this did not affect direct sales.
The decline in interest in the franchise is also indicated by Steam statistics. If the original gathered about 20 thousand simultaneous users at its peak, the sequel showed a result approximately 10% lower — about 18 thousand players. From a business point of view, this is a worrying signal, as sequels are expected to expand the audience, not reduce it.
The weak financial performance of The Outer Worlds 2 reinforces concerns about the future of the brand and the stability of the Obsidian studio. It is worth recalling that in 2025, Avowed from Obsidian was called one of the worst AAA games.
