Beyond Good & Evil 2 remains a record holder in terms of development time: 6445 days have passed since the announcement on May 30, 2008 — 17 years, 7 months and 22 days. At the same time, the current version of the game has been in production since about 2017, which still means 8–9 years of development.
Against the backdrop of a large-scale restructuring of Ubisoft, which canceled six projects, including the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Insider Gaming sources claim that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in active development — at least for now.
In 2023, the project was at the center of an investigation: Ubisoft Montpellier was being investigated "due to an unprecedented number of developers facing burnout and going on sick leave."
According to sources, constant reboots, postponements and prolonged development could cost Ubisoft more than $500 million. The company considers these costs justified.
When Beyond Good & Evil 2 will be released is unknown. The release may be postponed for several more years.
