The launch of portable consoles turned out to be uneven: users criticized the raw software and generally mediocre user experience. It seems that the feedback has been taken into account — the patches eliminate the main shortcomings.
The January update focuses on an important aspect for the Microsoft ecosystem — energy saving. The main changes affected Extreme Standby Mode: Asus has improved the Modern Standby Assistant, which is responsible for managing standby mode and power consumption when the device is not in use.
Rapid battery drain in standby mode undermines the very idea of portable gaming. The update should reduce battery consumption when the sleep assistant is active.
The second part of the update concerns control. Users have the ability to reassign Xbox Gaming Copilot and Push to Talk actions to other buttons. By default, Copilot is launched via the Command Center, and voice input is tied to holding down the Library button — not the most convenient options for regular use.
The update includes bug fixes. For those who use ROG Xbox Ally as their primary gaming device, these changes are important: more stable operation and better battery life.
