Weta Workshop to Re-release Smaug Bust from "The Hobbit": Return of the Fire-Breathing Dragon
For fans of "The Hobbit" film trilogy who miss Middle-earth, there will be another chance to acquire a Smaug bust from Weta Workshop. Pre-orders will open next week, offering both regular and gold versions of the collectible "trophy."
Weta Workshop has decided to re-release the Smaug the dragon bust from "The Hobbit" film trilogy. Pre-orders for this collectible item will open on January 28–29, 2026 (depending on the buyer's time zone and the timer on the official website).
There will be two bust options available: Smaug the Terrible and Smaug the Golden (limited to 900 copies).
The height of this item, made primarily of polystone, is 36 cm, width is 46 cm, depth is 24 cm, and weight is 6.8 kg. The bust can be placed on a flat surface or hung on a wall. Simply loosen the bolt, rotate Smaug's head on its base by 180 degrees, and tighten the bolt again.
Smaug is designed to be missing one horn on each side of his head – they were lost in an ancient battle. For the golden version of the bust, the artists used a special metal foiling technique.
The release of these "trophies" is expected in the second quarter of 2026.
