Studio CEO Ralph Fulton said that the idea to create something completely different came about back in 2017, shortly after the release of the successful Forza Horizon 3. Despite the success, the team strived for new challenges, which led to the formation of a separate group to work on an open-world RPG.
Fulton noted that the studio's key skills, creating complex graphics engines and managing open spaces, were ideally suited for the revival of Fable. The technology had to be adapted to the requirements of a story-driven RPG, but the team's enthusiasm was high from the very beginning.
The release of the Fable reboot is scheduled for the fall of 2026. Playground Games emphasizes that the project will differ from the original Lionhead Studios, offering its own vision of Albion with fantasy aesthetics and British humor.
