Director Koshi Nakanishi confirmed that work on the horror game Resident Evil Requiem began "on a small scale" about six years ago.
In an interview, he clarified:
However, the current form that players see now emerged about three years ago.
Nakanishi noted that development started after the conclusion of Ethan's story in Resident Evil 7 and the release of Resident Evil Village, which was directed by Morimasa Sato.
Although previous games were praised, they were "somewhat detached" from the storyline prior to Resident Evil 6. Nakanishi added that the team decided to return to that story, as well as to Raccoon City, taking player feedback into account.
Resident Evil Requiem will be released on February 27, 2026. No demo is planned this time, but pre-orders have already exceeded Capcom's expectations, promising record sales.
