Reddit users noticed AI art in GOG's 2026 sale banner. In the image, an SNES-style console appears to be "melting" — a typical artifact of generative models. The banner was spotted last week, after which active discussion began. Users are disappointed that a company claiming to support creators and game preservation uses AI even for promotional materials.
On January 26, a GOG forum user under the nickname KosmicznaPluskwa, who identified himself as a graphic designer at the company, commented on the situation. He emphasized that he is not an official representative, but confirmed that the image was created by AI.
To clarify the situation — the current sale banner is entirely made by AI. This is not my work. My team is now much smaller than before, and the requirements for the role have changed completely.
He also noted that he is upset by the widespread spread of AI art: "It is depressing to realize how ubiquitous it has now become."
A GOG representative declined to confirm the use of AI, telling Kotaku:
We cannot publicly comment on internal processes or tools, but we are aware of the current discussions.
