Two signs pointing to a State of Play have surfaced online at once. First, NateTheHate mentioned the showcase, then Jeff Grubb named an approximate timeframe. Sony appears to be preparing its first major presentation of 2026, so players began compiling a list of "guaranteed" announcements.
The internet quickly inflated expectations. Rumors appeared that State of Play would feature Rockstar games — allegedly a next-generation version of Red Dead Redemption 2 and even Grand Theft Auto VI.
Insider Kiwi Talkz said that GTA VI and Red Dead Redemption 2 will appear neither at PlayStation State of Play nor at Nintendo Direct for one simple reason — Rockstar does not need it. The studio has its own communication rhythm, its own channels, and its own rules.
Some people think GTA 6 or an RDR2 update will appear at the next Nintendo Direct or State of Play, lol.
That will not happen, Rockstar never announces anything at shows like these, everything is done on its own terms. Sony and Nintendo need Rockstar, not the other way around, lol.
Do not set yourself up for disappointment.
The main point is simple: expectations should not be raised too high. A couple of rumors and one "I heard" can easily turn an ordinary Sony presentation into a reason for dissatisfaction because of the absence of GTA VI.
