For many years, Rust fans have been urging the developers to do something about cheaters. Facepunch Studios has heard such requests, and a new measure to strengthen the fight against cheaters was recently announced.
Starting in March 2026, Rust server owners will be able to enable an option that will allow only players with Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 activated to connect.
However, the creators of Rust understand that not all players want to use such protection, or even have the ability to do so. At this stage, it will remain an option, but in the future they plan to make it mandatory:
This feature will launch as an optional setting for server owners, but over time we will analyze the metrics and plan to make it mandatory for all servers. The adoption rate of Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 is now significantly higher and continues to grow — they are increasingly becoming the standard in competitive multiplayer games.
