Although Nintendo has found success over the last two console generations, not everything comes easily for the company. Wii U became a well-known failure, and Virtual Boy — a red-and-black headset with 22 games — flopped almost immediately. Over the years, the device became a small embarrassment for Nintendo, but recently the company decided to "embrace the past" by introducing an accessory for Switch 2 and adding Virtual Boy to the Nintendo Classics library.

$99 for a joke turned out to be an acceptable price in the US, as the accessory has completely sold out. Even the cheaper cardboard version of Virtual Boy has also sold out in the Nintendo Store.

Although Virtual Boy games are available without the accessories, the appearance will be strange, so it is no surprise that fans also bought up the more budget-friendly option. A new batch is expected to arrive closer to the accessory's launch in February, but the high level of interest remains a surprise.
