The launch of Grand Theft Auto VI is approaching, and fans are worried about the fate of the current GTA Online — the multiplayer mode of GTA V. Some believe that with the release of the new installment in the franchise, the project will be wound down quickly.
Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick said while speaking with investors:
[....] I have every reason to believe that we will continue to support GTA Online. The game has a wonderful community that loves it and remains engaged. And again, this quarter Rockstar proved that if you release truly high-quality additional content, then despite how long GTA Online has been on the market, players come back.
GTA Online remains popular and continues to generate revenue. Take-Two's financial report states:
"The GTA series significantly exceeded our forecasts, with recurrent consumer spending growth [microtransaction purchases] reaching 27%, driven by the GTA Online update \"A Safehouse in the Hills\""
The release of Grand Theft Auto VI is expected in November 2026.
