Recently, a fan of the DOOM franchise going by the nickname Wanderingreader123 published a farewell message. He has cancer, and his days are numbered.
The hospital was able to provide him with a PS5 and a copy of the new DOOM: The Dark Ages:
Right now I am fighting my way through hordes of demons in the fourth chapter and feeling a genuine childlike joy, once again feeling like the cool and formidable Demon Slayer. I may not live to see the expansion released, but I am already happy that I can finally play this game myself.
To the developers at id Software: thank you for creating this magnificent work of art, which not only returned the shooter genre to its roots, but also breathed new life into it by rethinking its foundations in a way no other game has managed to achieve. And thank you as well for giving such an amazing series to a fan like me.
DOOM creator John Romero responded to the post:
Hi, Wanderingreader123. I am deeply moved, and it is a tremendous honor for me to know that you carried DOOM with you through so many years and chose to spend time in this world at the final stage. You are the embodiment of bravery and courage. You are the reason DOOM exists. When we created DOOM, we wanted to create a world in which a person feels strong even when everything around them seems hopeless. Realizing that this game became a companion for you — something familiar, constant, alive — means more to me than I can put into words. You are not alone in your hospital room. You stand where millions of us have stood — fighting. Every enemy, every level, every moment matters, because you matter. Thank you for sharing this part of your life with us.
