Recently, The United West Team presented a teaser for the large-scale modification Fallout: The New West.
Built on Fallout: New Vegas, the enthusiasts aim to recreate the canceled Van Buren (the original Fallout 3, which never saw the light of day in the early 2000s). Previously, the mod was known as "Fallout: Revelation Blues"
The project is currently in active development. We plan to release a demo version with an alternative beginning soon, and then present the full Act 1 of the game as a vertical slice.
The creators of Fallout: The New West noted that some Van Buren ideas could already be seen in New Vegas. They have to work with scattered documents, and sometimes old ideas simply cannot be implemented:
Many in the community mistakenly believe that Van Buren is a fully finished game that simply was not released, but that is far from the truth. The Van Buren documents are disorganized and contradictory, as the game was Interplay's last attempt at salvation. Moreover, some of its ideas had already been implemented in a certain form in New Vegas. As a result, we have to do more than just finish writing the design documents for a number of parts of the game; we also have to cut or change elements that are simply impossible to implement. This project strives to be as faithful as possible to the original documents, but ultimately we are a completely different team of creators finishing a project that was started more than 20 years ago.
A demo version had previously been presented for the project (using the mod's old title), "Fallout Revelation Blues - Burham Springs Demo," on Nexus Mods.
