Recently, the creators of the alt:V project announced its closure. The reason was a demand from Take-Two, the publisher of Grand Theft Auto V.
The developers published a statement in the alt:V Multiplayer Discord* channel in English and Russian:
For the past nine years, we have been building alt:V — starting as a small project and growing into a full-fledged multiplayer platform used by hundreds of servers and thousands of players around the world. These were years of solving complex problems and experimenting with new ideas. From simple developments to full-fledged RP worlds, alt:V has become the foundation for the best multiplayer projects. But today we are forced to talk about important changes regarding the future of alt:V. Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have made it clear that FiveM is the only authorized multiplayer platform for GTAV, as enshrined in their Platform License Agreement (PLA). In accordance with this policy and at the request of Take-Two, alt:V will begin a phased shutdown in 2026.
The alt:V project will be closed gradually:
- Registration of new servers on alt:V is scheduled to close on March 2, 2026, and on this day, public access to server tools will be terminated.
- On May 4, 2026, the public list of servers will become unavailable.
- Full termination of platform support — July 6, 2026. By this date, migration to FiveM must be completed.
The alt:V game client and server tools will no longer be available or supported, and the server infrastructure will be permanently shut down.
