Recently, Valve removed the Void War tactics page on Steam after a DMCA notice. It stated that Games Workshop, the owner of the Warhammer franchise, claims copyright infringement.

Initially, players assumed it might be a troll exploiting a loophole in the rights system. However, it turned out that Games Workshop did have claims against the developers — triggered by a single frame from the trailer with shoulder pads.

The franchise owner suggested that players might think the project was somehow related to Games Workshop.

The Void War developers commented on the situation:

After more than a week without a response, Games Workshop finally replied to our letter and confirmed that the notice was indeed sent by them. They explained that their concern was only about one specific frame from one of the trailers on the store page, claiming that individual elements could create the false impression that Void War was somehow associated with Games Workshop. Specifically, it was about "large, bulging shoulder pads with metal trim."

The developers emphasized that all the graphics in the trailer are original work by their artists, but decided to remove the trailer to get the game back on Steam as soon as possible:

Although we disagree with [Games Workshop]'s assessment, the easiest way to get the game back into the store and not get bogged down in the DMCA procedure was to remove that trailer and move on. We may upload an updated version later when we have time to correct that frame, but right now our main priority is releasing content and completing support for multi-language fonts to finally provide full translations.
