Recently, Larian Studios boss Sven Vincke participated in a special stream on "Channel From Hell" and shared memories of working on Divinity: Original Sin 2.

Even then, the developers began hinting at Baldur's Gate 3 — a game that was fully announced only several years after the launch of DOS 2. Initially, the hint at the studio's new project was so obvious that the developers ultimately decided to make changes.

During the conversation on the stream, the necromancer from Divinity: Original Sin 2, who spoke about getting into "another world," was mentioned.

Sven Vincke explained that at the time of DOS2's release, Larian already had a contract with the franchise owner and a draft of the Baldur's Gate 3 script was written:

It was a Baldur’s Gate 3 teaser. Initially, the reference to BG3 was very obvious, and we had to soften it a bit. We did it at the very last moment because, when DOS2 came out in the summer, we wrote the first draft for Baldur’s Gate 3 — we already had a contract with [the copyright holder] Wizards of the Coast, and we needed to take care of it then. It turned out very bad.

Players subsequently were able to find remnants of the future BG3 in the game: the "Mind Maggots" larvae are very reminiscent of those that played an important role in the story of Baldur's Gate 3.
