In a recent financial report, the company confirmed work on animated series based on the Street of Rage, Shinobi, OutRun and Eternal Champions series.
The projects will be released on small screens and expand the universes known from arcade machines and consoles of the 80s and 90s. Sega noted that this is only the beginning – other adaptations are also in development, but specific brands have not yet been disclosed.
The decision is related to the success of the Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise. Its results showed that recognizable franchises work outside the gaming industry. Now the publisher intends to apply this model to other classic series from its catalog.
