Shutting down servers and removing games from digital stores has become a common practice for projects with an emphasis on online play. When interest wanes, publishers shut down support and network functions.
Now 2K Games has made the decision. The company will remove NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 and WWE 2K Battlegrounds from sale. Both games will disappear from digital stores on February 20, 2026 – after this date, it will not be possible to buy them.
This is only the first stage. On July 9, 2025, the publisher will shut down the servers. Online matches and modes requiring a network connection will stop working.
NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 offered arcade street matches featuring NBA stars, multiplayer, and three-point contests. WWE 2K Battlegrounds focused on simplified arcade wrestling with power-ups and special abilities.
