Epic abandoned, fans saved: Unreal Tournament 2004 is back online

Today, Epic Games is more often associated with Fortnite, but a group of enthusiasts decided to remind about the company's roots.

Unreal Tournament 2004, which many consider the pinnacle of the arena shooter genre, has become completely free, along with Unreal Tournament 1999. The game received its first public update in over 20 years, adapting it to modern PCs.

Several years ago, Epic Games removed old projects from digital stores and shut down servers, effectively closing the online mode. The OldUnreal community achieved tacit permission to host the installer and prepared a patch.

The update adds support for 64-bit architecture, fixes rendering issues on Windows 10/11, Linux, and macOS, and restores the server list. UT2004 is back in high resolution and allows you to connect to matches without any problems.

For veterans, this is a return to Onslaught and Assault modes, for new players – a free opportunity to see what shooters were like before the era of microtransactions and battle passes. You can download the games for free at the link.
