Recently, a comment under the video "Identity Crisis is Killing Tomb Raider" went viral in the Tomb Raider community. Its authorship is attributed to Cédric Chassang. He participated in the production of Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

The identity of the author of the comment has not yet been confirmed, but many fans are inclined to believe that it is indeed Cédric.

The author of the text is critical of the current state of Crystal Dynamics. The studio is described as "very Californian." According to him, the former owner of the franchise (Square Enix) did not understand anything about it, and everything was managed by incompetent people:

The so-called "survival trilogy" appeared when Darrell Gallagher (an artist whom Square Enix promoted to head of Crystal Dynamics) decided to hand over the franchise to a group of egocentric, maniacally self-loving game directors — both at Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal. They imagined themselves worthy of Hollywood, but only demonstrated why this is not the case, while oppressing everyone who dared to question their decisions. Square Enix, of course, did not understand at all what the real essence of Tomb Raider was, and could not maintain control over the franchise [Later, Gallagher left for another failed... initiative, and the directors who worked on the trilogy either left the studio or took on other projects. Tomb Raider: Catalyst is now in the hands of — God knows who — but still at Crystal Dynamics.

The author of the comment shared his expectations — he assumes that the new Tomb Raider will be a bad game:

Honestly, I expect the worst: a weak script (in terms of the story told, not the dialogues), a boring and unoriginal lore, a lack of gameplay innovations, a complete absence of real skill or intellectual challenge, an abundance of "agenda" inserts — and, of course, Lara, who can only be recognized by her name.
