Has NVIDIA Made a Breakthrough? DLSS 4.5 Ultra Performance Dissected by Hardware Unboxed

NVIDIA impressed with upscaling in DLSS 4.5. The strongest effect is given by the Ultra Performance mode - image reconstruction from 720p to 4K.

The Hardware Unboxed channel previously analyzed DLSS 4.5 in Performance mode with model M. Now attention has been paid to model L – it is designed for Ultra Performance.

In 4K, the internal resolution is only 720p. The analysis starts at 9:30 in the video. According to the authors, this is a breakthrough in the quality of upscaling from such a low source. FSR 4 and DLSS 4.0 in a similar mode give a noticeably worse picture. In the case of DLSS 4.5 Ultra Performance in 4K, the quality is already comparable to the Balanced mode in DLSS 4.0 and will suit most users, except for the most demanding ones.

This means that you can go down two presets compared to DLSS 4.0 and get more frames without a serious loss of quality. For 1440p, the authors recommend Performance mode – the internal resolution in Ultra Performance is too low.
