The developers of Path of Exile 2 are preparing the next update. They plan to talk about it "soon," and for now Grinding Gear Games has presented a teaser and outlined the release window.
It is expected that all plans for update 0.5.0 will be revealed at the end of April. The authors of PoE 2 noted that it includes "changes for high-level play," but there are no details yet.
For now, Path of Exile 2 fans are being invited to play the current league, Vaal's Fatum, which will end before the launch of 0.5.0:
All your characters and their items will be transferred to the "Early Access Standard" or "Hardcore" leagues. There will be no progress wipe, so when the transfer is complete, you will be able to continue playing your heroes in the "Early Access Standard/Hardcore" leagues.
