An updated version of Final Fantasy VII has been released on Steam. The official post notes that this is the old game with new features.
Among the new features: a "x3" speed mode, disabling random encounters, "improved battles" with a maximum limit level and HP/MP recovery during battles, as well as autosave.
The new version has replaced the 2013 edition – it can no longer be purchased. Owners of the old version will receive the update for free and will be able to keep both versions in the library at the same time. However, saves are incompatible, you will have to start the game again.
The update brings the original to the level of modern console ports. Previously, the 2013 PC edition often contained bugs.
For those who missed FF7 in their time or want to remember the classics before the remake trilogy is completed, the new release is worth attention. As a reminder, in 2026, Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth will be released on Switch 2 and Xbox.
