Recently, reviews of Resident Evil Requiem appeared online. Soon after, one of them was removed from the aggregator Metacritic.

The piece by VideoGamer came under scrutiny after drawing the attention of Alex Donaldson, owner of RPG Site. The text was short and contained many generic phrases, and it barely said anything about the game itself.

Alex Donaldson called for the review to be removed from aggregators such as Metacritic and OpenCritic. Soon after, he reported on social media that the piece had indeed been removed from the roundup, and that VideoGamer's older publications were now being examined:

That review has already been removed, and it looks like future reviews from Videogamer will no longer be published on Metacritic. They say they are now checking their archive to determine when exactly materials began to be created with the help of AI (there are definitely a few more there). Good job, guys, they reacted very quickly.

Alex then added that Metacritic had sent all editors and publishers of gaming websites "a fairly stern yet excellent reminder by email":

Our policy is that we will never host reviews created by artificial intelligence on Metacritic. If it is later determined that such a review was published, we will immediately remove it and discontinue cooperation with the outlet after conducting an investigation.
