Marathon Players Reveal a Mistaken Strategy That Kills Newbies

Testing in Marathon has given the community an idea of what Bungie is offering in the extraction shooter genre. Player reactions have been mixed.

Marathon differs from other games in the genre: a balance between the dynamics of Arc Raiders and the atmosphere of Hunt: Showdown. Many players have already spent dozens of hours in the game and are sharing tips. Threads with recommendations from "veterans" have appeared on Reddit, where ASaltyGamer13 and others gave advice to newbies.

The main recommendation is not to run with a knife. Yes, the speed is higher, and rushing to the extraction point is justified, but in Dire Marsh you are too noticeable. Movement and shots are audible at a great distance. Enemy teams will hear you sooner, and a team without weapons will lose in case of an ambush.

The time to kill in the game is short: if your team can't respond quickly, there's little chance of survival. Be patient, explore the map, listen for shots, and attack at the right moment – it's easier to get loot that way.

Marathon is reminiscent of Hunt: Showdown: fighting NPCs is often disadvantageous. Elite enemies require a lot of resources, and prolonged skirmishes create noise over long distances. PvE is more significant in Arc Raiders.
