The Unkindled is the silent protagonist of Dark Souls III, doomed to hunt down those in whose chest the flame burns - the Lords of Cinder.
The awakening of the Unkindled is associated with the cycles of Kindling the First Flame: when the fire is ready to go out, and the Lords leave their thrones, the Unkindled rise, called to defeat them and return the ashes of the lords to the Fire Temple, where they will once again fulfill their duty.
