According to official data, the game has already sold 5 million copies. This is a serious achievement for the ninth part of the 30-year-old Resident Evil series.
The new result was a record start for the franchise. No previous installment has sold 5 million in a few days. For comparison: Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Village reached this mark only after four and five months, respectively.
Earlier games in the series took even longer to reach such figures. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard sold 3 million copies a few weeks later, and Resident Evil 6 reached 4.9 million after five months, although 4.5 million were sold on the day of release.
Only Resident Evil 5 crossed the 5 million mark faster, in about two months.
So far these are only initial data. If sales maintain their pace, the ranking in the list of the most successful games in the series may change. Currently, Resident Evil 2 (16.8 million), Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (16.4 million) and Resident Evil Village (13.5 million) are leading.
