However, early versions of the technology in games like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Silent Hill 2 Remake faced problems: noticeable visual "noise" and graphical artifacts. Instead of waiting for updates from developers, Sony decided to intervene.

In the new issue of DF Direct, Digital Foundry experts reported on the company's plans. Sony is preparing a system update for the console that will add a kind of "magic button." The function will allow the user to forcibly replace the old version of PSSR built into the game with the current system version of the algorithm, PSSR 2.0 or newer.

This approach is not new for PC gamers. The community has long been replacing NVIDIA DLSS files in game folders to improve image quality in older projects. For a closed console ecosystem, such a solution from the hardware manufacturer is rare.

Digital Foundry experts call the idea excellent. Even if the developer stops supporting the game, the PSSR algorithm will be improved by Sony engineers. The player only needs to enable the new version in the console menu to get rid of texture flickering. If the function appears in the PS5 Pro menu, the value of the console in the eyes of players will increase significantly.
