Average Steam commission drops below 30% - Valve sums up 2025

Valve traditionally sums up the year. A recent blog post discussed changes in the service, commission, and more.

Many have heard about the "predatory 30%" that developers pay on Steam. However, back in 2018, the company introduced new revenue sharing ratios — 75% and 80% (i.e., commission of 25% and 20%, respectively).

Valve noted that over the past 7 years, more and more games from both large and small studios have been able to reach the highest revenue sharing ratio.

As a result, the average commission for Steam developers was 24%:

The revenue share paid for all products released on Steam in 2025, excluding Valve games, was 76% — and this does not include profits from selling Steam keys obtained for free outside the platform.
