GreedFall II Disappointed Critics and Hit Nacon's Plans

The release of GreedFall 2: The Dying World was supposed to be a salvation for the French publisher Nacon. But the first reviews show the opposite.

Instead of a big hit, the game received scores at the level of 65 points according to Metacritic. This is significantly lower than the results of the first part of 2019. For a publisher that is facing difficulties in the market, this result was a serious blow. The company was counting on success that would strengthen the position of the Spiders studio.

Critics note that the game has many problems that look like consequences of an uneven early access period. The main complaint is the weak pace of the narrative. The prologue is called boring, which causes interest in the game to drop at the very beginning. Reviewers also point to technical flaws, bugs, and controversial changes in the combat system, which they consider too heavy and overloaded.

Some publications, including Gameliner, call the current state of the game a "catastrophe," noting flat characters and weak plot development.

At the same time, the spirit of classic RPGs is still felt in the game. Fans may be attracted by elements reminiscent of Dragon Age: Origins and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. After a protracted introduction, players find familiar features of Spiders projects – political intrigues, an unusual world, and relationships between characters. But, as reviewers note, the studio "took too big a piece that it could not swallow."
