It is already clear that there will be no reviews of the console versions on the release day. The developers are known for Black Desert and have focused on the PC market for many years. This is also due to the specifics of the South Korean market, where PC games are significantly more popular than consoles.
The published technical parameters of the console versions also raise questions. In 60 fps mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, only 1080p is declared without upscaling to 4K. If the data is correct, the image in performance mode may look blurry. Upscaling to 4K is only promised in 40 or 30 fps modes using FSR 3.
The only console with upscaling to 4K at 60 fps in the official specification is the PS5 Pro. It uses PSSR technology, which reconstructs the image from 1080p to 4K.
Against this background, some players fear technical problems – some draw parallels with Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4, when only PC version reviews were published before the release. In this situation, many advise waiting for technical tests of the console versions before buying.
The Digital Foundry editor stated:
We will follow the console versions of Crimson Desert and try to publish something on the release day. (…) I don’t think they are trying to hide anything. They are trying to help us get access to the game. We will soon find out how things really are. (…) I still haven’t seen how the game works on consoles.
