Amiga Legend Returns After 40 Years - Defender of the Crown Remake Announced

Defender of the Crown is a game that many still remember with nostalgia. And it's no coincidence: in 1986, it became a real graphical breakthrough.

Defender of the Crown is set in a medieval setting. It was the first game from Cinemaware and offered a truly cinematic visual presentation, which was very impressive in those years. The project stood out not only for its graphics, for example, during the tournament scene, the player saw knights rushing towards each other from a first-person perspective, but also for its gameplay.

The game was released on Amiga 500 in 1986, and later received versions for other platforms, including C64, Atari ST, and ZX Spectrum.

For the 40th anniversary of the release, the Black Tower Basement team is preparing a remake of Defender of the Crown: The Legend Returns. It is scheduled for release in 2026.

The game will feature a retro mode that allows you to play in the style of the original Amiga version. The second option is the "kingdom module" with improved graphics, new mechanics, procedurally generated maps, and multiple difficulty levels. There will also be a classic mode where the gameplay remains the same, but the graphics will be modern.

Defender of the Crown has a page on Steam. The release is also planned for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch / Switch 2.
