In recent months, NVIDIA has significantly improved the quality of upscaling from 720p and 1080p resolutions thanks to DLSS 4.5. AMD is still trying to get closer to NVIDIA's results in image reconstruction using FSR. The editors of Hardware Unboxed compared the FSR 4.1 version, which "leaked" into the network, with DLSS 4.5.
The preliminary test considered Performance mode in 4K. FSR 4.1 now produces a noticeably sharper image, thanks to which the technology has approached model L from DLSS 4.5. Significant progress compared to FSR 4 can be seen in the freeze frame at 4:46 – there FSR 4.1 is much closer to DLSS 4.5.
Another improvement is noticeable in motion. At 5:30 of the video, you can see how good the image with FSR 4.1 looks when the camera is moving. Objects such as trees swaying in a strong wind in Star Wars Outlaws also look better.
As for performance, FSR 4.1 does not require additional resources compared to FSR 4.0. Players get the same level of FPS.
As a result, AMD has taken a significant step forward. The picture has become clearer in motion, but the technology has not yet reached the level of DLSS 4.5. At the same time, AMD is gradually reducing the gap from NVIDIA's solutions.
