The launch of Overwatch 2 on Steam became a PR disaster. The game was bombarded with negative reviews and the shooter topped the anti-rating «top 100 worst» on Steam.
However, much has changed since then: Blizzard released a series of updates and returned to the original name Overwatch. Recent reviews of the game have become «mixed» and the improvement in the rating pleased the game director.
At the GDC developers conference, Aaron Keller said during his speech: «We are no longer the lowest-rated game on Steam!» — the developers present applauded together.
However, Aaron does not yet know what the Overwatch team needs to do to raise the rating to «positive» reviews on Steam:
There wasn't really a magic solution here. We can't point to one post or update and say, 'That fixed everything.' However, over time we started to notice changes — in engagement metrics, in community sentiment, in how players talked about Overwatch. We saw comments like: 'They're listening to us' or 'The development team really cares'.
