Sony plans to abandon the PlayStation Network brand. According to Tom Henderson for Insider Gaming, the company will remove the designations "PlayStation Network" and "PSN" by September 2026.
This will not affect the operation of the services – the changes will be purely visual.
Sony explains:
We have made a strategic decision to gradually phase out the terms “PlayStation Network” and “PSN” from the platform to better reflect the evolving range of digital services.
All the usual functions will remain: friends list, multiplayer, trophies. Developers will be notified in advance of the need to remove mentions of PSN from future releases, materials, and external interfaces.
It is currently unknown what brand will replace PSN. The company has not yet revealed the new concept, so this is about the end of an era of a recognizable brand, but not about complete changes to the services.
Visual changes are planned for the fall of 2026, along with an update to the technical requirements.
